Galeri 2 to open next week

Date: 12.09.2018

DTA Wales member Galeri Caernarfon will open their new cinema complex called Galeri 2 on Friday 21st September, with actor Rhys Ifans doing  the honours.

After over 7 years of planning and finding adequate funding for the £4m extension and a year of building – Galeri are delighted to formally open the new 800m2 extension which houses two dedicated cinema screens (119 seats / 65 seats) with 3D capability, a new entrance and box office, public art/craft display areas, a meeting room and dedicated creative space for various workshops to be held.

As a community enterprise, they had reached a cross-road where they physically couldn’t develop their artistic programme or their commercial opportunities (private hires/conferences/weddings) without the extension.

This project will see Caernarfon have a dedicated full-time cinema for the first time in over two decades as well as being the only multi-screen independent cinema in Gwynedd and Anglesey.  To make the project a reality, Galeri secured funding from the Arts Council of Wales, Visit Wales TAD scheme (ERDF funding) and the Welsh Governments’ VVP scheme.

The new cinema will offer a varied programme of film screenings and will show films on national release dates. There are several programming strands that we will be introducing once open, for example regular relaxed (dementia friendly) and parent/baby screenings. The number of films shown daily/weekly will vary depending on the time of year, choice of films and in response to customer demand and buying patterns. There will be on average around 20 screenings weekly.

The new cinema programme can be viewed here.
